Your Hosts
Chris, Karin and Gus Guikema

My wife Karin, our son Augustus (Gus) and I would like to invite you to join us here in the great Western US, for the finest elk and mule deer hunting in the country as well as all the other hunting opportunities we have to offer. I have been guiding in the area full time since 1996, prior to moving to New Mexico I worked in the Bob Marshall Wilderness as well as the Cloud Peak Wilderness in Montana and Wyoming. I have also been a fly fishing guide in the western US since 1990 guiding all over Montana, Wyoming and Colorado and here on the San Juan River in NM
My wife grew up in Colorado on the eastern side of Denver on the plains. She and I meet in Durango as I was getting my guide service on its feet and she was finishing up College. She was no stranger to a trout stream as she spent two years in Montana working for a guest ranch and spending her days off on the trout streams of Yellowstone. One of our first trips together was a winter trip to the Bighorn River, MT. We both fished in temps from 5-10 degrees for 4 days, after that I knew I had a keeper! We were married in 1999 in a small meadow high above Durango, Colorado and we are now living in Aztec, NM. We fish on the nearby rivers and lakes whenever we have a chance. We also spend a great deal of time shed hunting and scouting year round. My wife works at the local Collage as a counselor to first generation collage students.
Our son was born on April 6th 2004 his name is Augustus Parson Guikema (Gus) he is not taking guided trips until fall 2020, but his schedule is still mostly open. He and I spend our summers scouting for elk and deer as well as shed hunting in the spring. In the fall of 2006 he and I were out looking for elk when he started to say, antelope-antelope, I told him we were looking for elk today he responded with antelope all gone, about two seconds later a group of antelope ran in front of the truck, I think he’s a natural and more then happy to spend all day in the field looking for game. He has his own 8x35s and wants his in hand as soon as I breakout mine.

When I moved to New Mexico my goal was to spend a few years scouting and gaining an understanding the elk and deer of the area and then start back up with full time hunting operations, I am happy to say that I now feel we are able to offer the very best hunting these greats states have to offer. I look forward to meeting you in our camps soon and showing you the best the West has to offer. Stop back to the website often as we post new photos and hunt reports as often as we get a chance. As always feel free to call anytime there is no better way to get to know each other, getting a proper understanding of what we have to offer as well as gaining your trust are the most important aspects in choosing an outfitter, check out my FAQs page it should be a great deal of help in the beginning!
My service has never had any complaints filed with game and fish departments in any state we guide, and we have never been sighted buy the USDA Forest Service or BLM for any violation, a record that we are proud of as a team.
